Though NFL star quarterback Teddy Bridgewater has a long road to recovery, he should find inspiration behind two notable individuals, including a former Louisville Cardinal.

Today, news broke regarding one of the best athletes the University of Louisville has produced in recent history. Teddy Bridgewater — a stud of a quarterback in the NFL and perhaps a legitimate MVP candidate.

However, there was no positve headline.

Bridgewater was said to have sustained a terrible “non-contact injury” and had been hauled off the field in an ambulance. Later this evening, the Minnesota Vikings announced he had torn his ACL and had experienced other structural damage to his knee and leg.

This is tragic news for Vikings and TB fans — which definitely includes the Louisville Cardinals faithful. “The Ville” is definitely feeling the pain, too. Teddy is their guy to cheer in the professional ranks of football. He is a genuine and positive figure playing on the big stage.

The recovery process will be lengthy for Bridgewater. It could not have happened at a worse time — training camp being completed and the preseason schedule is winding down. Week One of the regular season is nearly here. The popular feeling amongst the Vikings’ fan base is that their season is officially over. Talk about a gut punch.

In order to return to the field, Teddy needs to find a great deal of motivation. There are two well-known names which he should look toward for a dose of inspiration, even if they are accustomed to a different playing surface.

One athlete is an NBA All-Star — Paul George. George endured a gruesome injury during a USA Basketball scrimmage in the summer of 2014. It was perhaps one of the worst injuries NBA-level basketball has ever witnessed. Some believed that George would never play NBA minutes again, and if he somehow did, he would only be a fraction of his old self — a dynamic force, especially when it came to throwing down dunks.

Another case is one which ironically hits home with Louisville Cardinals fans. It is the story of Kevin Ware.

Every Cards supporter knows the story. They remember the seconds leading to the leg injury to Ware. It may be unbelievably worse than Paul George’s injury. Both incidents were unfathomable and so tragic.

Ware had experienced a broken leg — a traumatic version to make matters worse. The popular belief was that he, too, would never see himself check into a regulation basketball game again. However, you should know to never doubt a Louisville Cardinal.

Following their recovery processes, both Paul George and Kevin Ware have returned better than ever. PG somehow became a better and more complete player in the NBA and assisted USA Basketball to gold medal status in the Rio Olympics. Kevin Ware has went on to play professional basketball overseas.

George and Ware are two prime examples that you can expect to reach out to Teddy Bridgewater. They have experienced major injuries that are much like the one(s) sustained by Teddy on Tuesday.

Teddy should not have any doubt about making a full recovery and returning to the gridiron, but if he ever needs any inspiration, he certainly has two key contacts to push him as he attempts a comeback.

This is a setback for Teddy Bridgewater, but the best is yet to come. He is still young. He beholds the Cardinal work ethic. Watch for Teddy to become the next great comeback story in not just the NFL, but all of sports.

LSL wishes Teddy a full and speedy recovery.
